Kindergarten Classroom and Curriculum
Samira Hartje teaches the Kindergarten Class.
Mrs. H's Goal
My goal is to ensure that each child performs at his/her maximum potential at all times; understands the multiple intelligences and recognizes their intelligences; and is supportive of the rest of the class. In our class it is safe to make mistakes and in fact we encourage them, for this is how we learn. We are like a big family during the school year, working and playing together, and each of us must be an active, contributing member for the class to function well.
Our Classroom Agreements:
Have peaceful hands and bodies.
Be kind.
Do our best.
Communication
Communication is the cornerstone to our success as a parent - teacher team. Please feel free to contact me whenever a concern arises. It is critical that the two-way system works for us all. I am often available after school from 12:30 - 1pm, or I can call you in the evening. In the fall and spring we will have parent teacher conferences so we may discuss your child's growth. Between those
times I will send home progress reports home so you may stay informed. Anytime you feel a need to talk, please feel free to contact me via the school telephone or by note.

Weekly Activities
Reading Buddies
We are very lucky to have Mr. Preston's 5th & 6th graders as our reading buddies!
Each student has been paired with a reading buddy from the 5th & 6th grade.
Throughout the year, the buddies will read books and poems to each other. This
gives each student a one-on-one read aloud time, the opportunity to get to know
other students, and meet some of our student's older siblings!
Life Lab
Students will assist in the propagation of fruits and vegetables to supplement the
Food Lab Program. Students will also use garden based activities to learn cross
curricular content, like math, language, and social studies.
Library
The class will visit Mrs. Cornish in the library. The book the students select will be
kept in their cubbies at school for the week. Later, the students and their reading
buddies will have the opportunity to read the school library book together. The
students are also welcome to read their school library books throughout the week.
Alphabet Bag Club (New Students Only)
Each week the students "Alphabet Bag" will be sent home. Students are asked to
fill the bag with objects they collect that begin with the sound of the letter of the
week. (Example: Letter C -- objects in the bag: cracker, car, cookie, clip).
Music
The class will have music with Mrs. Stephanie Raugust. They will focus on the
elements of music, rhythm, and more.
